Obama ’08

Wow. I was absolutely sure that Barack Obama wouldn’t bother running for President this time around. I figured he’d let Hillary and Rudy duke it out and then continue to make a mess of things for another four years, leaving him with an open door in 2012.

Not so.

Instead, Obama has officially tossed his hat in the ring by launching a Presidential Exploratory Committee, and I’m all giddy about it.

We’ll see what happens… Is this country ready to let a non-white sit in the driver’s seat?

He seems like a good bloke, but I have no idea what his politics are. Is that the point?

He’s mostly liberal. You’d hate him.

It’s not like I can vote for McCain or Giuliani. Well… maybe Rudy.

He’s fairly moderate. His schtick is the “politics of hope.” We’ll see how well that will play out on the national arena in the coming months. I think he’s a FAR stronger candidate than Hillary. The simple fact is that too many voters HATE Hillary, for no other reason than the fact that she is Hillary. That said, Dems love her and will likely push her through the primaries only to be beaten like a red-headed step-child in the big game (I’m a card-carrying member of the red-headed step-child coalition and free to comment on the cohort).

    Time up, I’ll be back.

    Ahh…where was I???

Obama, he was the doll of the Dem national convention. He has a manner of speaking that inspires. However, he has next to no track record. He has admitted to cocaine and marijuana use in an early memoir, which will likely appeal to a greater number of Americans than anyone realizes – it gives him a human quality. The Republicans will have difficulty slinging the drug mud, since he’s openly admitted to the indiscretion. So…if the Dems hoping to have a chance against McCain/Rudy (which would be a killer, landslide ticket), then they need to run Obama…possibly with Edwards.

The coming months will certainly be interesting. If the ‘surge’ works, then McCain saves face. Obama needs to watch his mouth, as the media turns up the heat. Hillary is just Hillary…a deadly smart politician, but widely disrespcted on at the national level – especially the square states. Rudy is loved by damn near everyone, except the right-wing base – those that actually turn out for primaries. Edwards has the southern magic, but likely not the love of the Dem base.

It’s all speculation and I’m typing like a talking head…so, back I go to the AM radio chatter…where all the country’s problems are REALLY solved. ;->
