I would like to clarify some of the misinformation that is being spread about stingrays following the recent stingray incident in Florida. The animal involved was a spotted eagle ray which is completely different from the species that spined Steve Irwin. Comparing the two incidents is like comparing tigers in India to lions in Africa! The spotted eagle ray commonly jumps from the water in Florida for various reasons from defense to removing parasites. The location where the recent incident occured happens to have a healthy population of spotted eagle rays and is also a busy boating thoroughfare. Through chance alone an eagle ray jumped out if the water and happened to land in the boat of Mr. Bertakis. Both he and the eagle ray were equally startled. When Mr. Bertakis attempted to remove the eagle ray from the boat it flapped around and unintentionally lodged its barbed in his chest. Any reports calling this an "attack" are preposterous and this is just another example of humans encroaching on the environment of a wild animal and when a chance incident occurs, turning around and blaming the animal!!
And as for "the foot long barb lodged in his chest" the barb was actually only 3inches long. Also, no stingray has the abililty to 'fire' its barb, it is permanently attached to the tail of the animal and intended to lodge in the mouth of a predator, such as a large shark, approaching from behind, thus detering the shark from attacking.

These mofos are going mental. How long until they develop legs and lungs and start hunting us on the beach? What's that? Tens of millions of years at a minimum? OK. Never mind.

They're clearly working for the monkeys, it's only a matter of time before the sharks are brought on board. Be afraid.
