TV Tidbits

One of my brother-in-law’s best friends from Brockton is a television writer. He’d just gotten his first big gig writing for a show on fox called Happy Hour on Fox. It’s a sitcom from the creators of That 70’s Show and while it wasn’t quite the genius show that 70’s was right off the bat, we could see definite potential and each show had at least a couple laugh-out-loud jokes. (It looks like critics generally panned it, but real people thought is was OK. Typical.) Now Brilliant But Cancelled is proclaiming the demise of the show. My first clue was when my TiVo said the next episode wouldn’t be recorded because it was no longer in the program guide, now I find news of its “hiatus” online and I’m more than a little bummed. I was just talking to Shawn in LA a week ago, and he was truly psyched to be working on the show and with the team involved. I’m not too worried about him — he finally seems to be getting real footholds in Hollywood, but I was really looking forward to watching the show evolve. I guess there’s the waaaay outside chance the show will actually be back in November, but nobody seems to think so.

In more positive news, I watched the premiere of Heroes on NBC tonight and man, am I excited about that one.  It’s right up my alley, for sure. Looks like everyone else digs it, too. Highly recommended.

This really is the best time of the year…

God forbid they give a show the chance to develop. Yet Everybody Loves Raymond gets 400 episodes.

How is “The Class” still on , but Happy Hour gone? What, was it too funny, too adult? The guy made t-shirts, that hits close to home!

Oh come on, FOX is probably better known at this point for the cool shows it has cancelled than for the ones it has kept (Firefly, Tru Calling, Family Guy, Futurama, Undeclared, Firefly, Strange Luck, John Doe, Arrested Development!! and worst of all, FIREFLY).

I wonder if it’s actually more worrisome to have a sitcom picked up by FOX than to not have it picked up at all.

Don’t forget Wonderfalls and Space:Above and Beyond. I have to admit: I thought Tru Calling blew goat chode. I love Quincy homegirl Eliza Dushku, but any show geared towards the MTV crowd, with so many quick cuts that it makes you seasick and a recap(!) of the show halfway through needs to be binned.

I’ma steal it off teh internets and see what it’s about. The official website says it’s coming back 2 NOV.

Wonderfalls…augh! That show was so good! Suffered from the typical FOX abuse, they were showing eps out of sequence which made no sense for a show with a strong story arc. They did start running the eps on Logo (I think because the sister was a lesbian) - I’m going to Myth that right now.

Brilliant but Cancelled has downgraded Happy Hour from DOA to Coma. We’ll have to waith until Nov 2 and see what happens, I guess.

I have eps. 1-3 burning to a disc right now. I’ma see if it is worth all the craziness. Of course, if old boy is from Brockton, I have to give it respec.

Yeah, Shawnie’s obviously in the writers pool to start out, so he doesn’t even show up in the credits of the eps I’ve seen. Sad part is they just finished shooting “his” episode (for which he was lead writer), but it didn’t make it on air (yet?).
