Black Bonnie

As of this Thursday, I will be the very proud owner of one gorgeous 2006 Triumph Bonneville Black.

This is, with the exception of some crazy chopper I’ll never have, my dream bike. I mean, if it’s good enough for Steve McQueen, right?

I can’t wait to ride it (first around the neighborhood, then to the coffee shop, then to work, and so on…). I also look forward to tricking it out with some of these sweetass accessories from Triumph’s new sixty8 line.

Mad props to Erik for convincing Matthew at Foothills BMW/Triumph (with whom I could talk for days!) to shave a few dollars off the deal (I suck at negotiating…) and for being general moral support. And for getting me started on riding bikes in the first place!

That’s pretty fucking pissah. I do like BSAs and Triumphs, but I don’t think I’d own one unless I lived in Europe.

BTW, the ad featuring Viva El Papi is running on Soxaholix now. I think it looks pretty classy yet cheeky at the same time.

Yeah, yeah. Motorcycle == Hahley. Whatever, bike biggot. ;)

I’m not spying the Papi ad atm. I’ll keep my eyes out for it.

beautiful ride! funny that you getting into bikes just as i am selling mine off. i want your following to know how much you have changed your position on bikes in 15 years or so. back in stratford, you thought i was a fool for having the bike!

This is absolutely true. Two-wheelers scared the living crap out of me (something to do with Mom being an ER nurse…).

As much as I hate to admit it, it’s the Discovery Channel / TLC chopper mania that did it for me. The more I learned about bike the more interested I got.

I have had a T100 for just under a year now and am wondering if you are feeling that you may have not chosen the right bike as I had not ridden for 13 years and feel the Bonnie is maybe for the older guy especially here on the road racing capital of the world the Isle of Man.

Well, that all depends on personal sensibilities, doesn’t it?

I definitely got the perfect bike for me. I’m not a go fast sport bike guy. Nor am I a highway cruising/touring guy. I am a sit upright and tool around the back roads kind of guy, and the Bonneville is perfect for this use. On top of that, the Bonnie is the bike I’ve always wanted (even back when I was afraid of motorcycles, I thought the Bonneville was cool).

I love, love, love my Bonnie.

If what you want to do is influenced by the fact that you are in the “road racing capital of the world”, I am surprised you bought a Bonneville in the first place.

well thanks for the reply jake and i would have to agree that the bonnie was always the bike i wanted and decided if i didn’t buy one now i never would. i won’t get into the isle of man tt with you cause you obviously know nothing about it but we only have back roads here, nothing more than single lane A roads. I was a motorcycle courier in London and felt the bonnie was a good intro back to bikes after 13 years and i feel it is a real challenge as a bike, rather than custom made jap bikes that are built for grip, cornering and braking. it is a shame you came back so negative because generally triumph owners are pretty amiable, at least in europe.

I’m sorry you thought my reply was negative, but I was simply stating my opinion that “the right bike” is a completely subjective thing.

I personally think the Bonnie is “the right bike”. You don’t seem to think so. That’s just how it is, and that’s all good.
