Mark, I also wish that I could add a song to a playlist while it is playing. There must be a way!

You're welcome. Rarely do I rate on my computer.
Side note, even after reading the manual, I still find the "on-the-go" playlists to be incredibly un-useful. I wish you could add songs to the on the go playlist by holding down the center button while a song was playing, and I don't know why you can't. If you are listening to a song you want to add, you have to go back and navigate all the way to the sepcific song, and *then* hold down the middle button. Unless anyone knows a better way?

Well, thanks Mark! Until I thought about your comment and did some googling, I had no idea you could actually rate songs using the iPod -- and I've been pissed off about not being able to do it, too!

I'm definitely adding an unrated playlist now. Fantastic.

For the others in the room who also failed to RTFM:

How To Rate Songs Using the iPod
While a song is playing, press the center button on the iPod twice to pull up the rating menu. Use the click wheel to set the rating and the menu will go away on its own.

The center button is also incredibly useful when listening to podcasts: The first press lets you skip by "chapter" (so you can go straight to the Monkey News on the Ricky Gervais Show) and the second press gives you a nice bit of summary info.

Good post. I didn't know you could "tag" songs like that. Thats a great way to do the generes, which as they stand are pretty useless. Personally, I also like to have the "Unrated" playlist which consists of song that do not have 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 stars. It's a good way to make sure I've heard everything at least once and I think I will be listening to that playlist exclusively until it no longer contains any songs (when everything's rated).
